About us

Your hosts: Mireille & Willem

Marcus Eriksson founded Näsets Marcusgård farm in 1910. It started small, but soon the farm became the central meeting place in the area. Marcus was an energetic man who wasn’t afraid to break new ground.

In 2014, we (Mireille & Willem) were ambitious enough to make a daring move: we relocated our family from the Netherlands to Furudal in Dalarna, Sweden. Driven by inspiration from Marcus Eriksson's story and the stunning beauty of nature around Näsets Marcusgård, we started a nature tourism business—comfortable and unique rural accommodation at the edge of the wilderness, a niche years ago. We are good at it according to our guests; our concept of being small, personal and taking time for our guests is notable in these times when so much has to be done and happens quickly.

What started with two holiday homes in the converted barn on our former farm, beautifully comfortable and spacious overnight accommodations has grown to unique overnight experiences in one of our holiday homes or the fantastic bedrooms in nature: the cabins in the woods—a micro/mini or maxi adventure in the countryside at the edge of the wilderness. Where we provide the accommodation, and the place to stay, can be complemented by delicious meals and activities through our carefully selected and valued partners.

We have become creators of leisure experiences you will remember for long. You are not the first; over the years, we have been able to create many experiences and fill the farm with guests: to celebrate a birthday, propose to your partner, various retreats, family celebrations, business meetings and also ordinary holiday stays.

Our driving force is to keep the countryside liveable with sufficient facilities for young and old. In doing so, be an inspiration for tourists but also for people who want to move to the rural areas and current residents. We do this by actively seeking niches, seeking innovations and collaborating with similar businesses in the village and region but also beyond. Important to us is that we share the same core values, can complement each other and use each other's strengths. For certain suppliers, we offer the concept of being a living showroom. Guests are introduced to innovative products, try them out and buy them at home. Examples are Click and Grow with its smart garden and Loofy's with its plastic-free care products.

Näsets Marcusgård is a small tourist company on the move and focuses more and more on a small scale, personal, local and time as a luxury. Special nights in our forest or a wonderful stay in one of our apartments. In a place that borders the wilderness but is still easily accessible in the Swedish countryside. What belief you have, if you are LGBTQ or vegan, does not matter: we take time for you and try to relieve you as much as possible so you can experience our place and its surroundings.

The farm’s history:
Näsets Marcusgård was originally a farm. The farmhouse was erected in 1910, and in 1917 the outhouses followed. The owner was Marcus Eriksson, who took over the farm from his parents. Marcus came from a family of six children, half of them emigrated to America. Marcus also forged his own journey. He started with two horses, seven cows and 15 chickens. Then he started a forestry and transport company on the farm, and he owned a sawmill. The farm had up to 15 horses and seven trucks on-site at its highest point. He married Johanna Gök from Näset, and together they had seven sons. During Marcus’ time, the farm was full of life and activity and became known as the centre of Näset.

EU Contribution
We are grateful that we received our application for the business support granted from the 2014-2020 Rural Development Program in 2018. Contributions are funded partly by funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The support represents 40% of our current investment costs to realize our project: "Näsets Marcusgård 2.0 - to spend the night in the woods."
