Interior-design and shopping: such a fine combination!

Today I made a day-trip with my mother which might be the perfect day for you too while you are here: worth sharing. A day of culture, nice food and shopping.
First we went to Carl och Karin Larssons house in Sunborn, near Falun. From Näsets Marcusgård it is about an one hour drive through a nice scenic landscape. You probably know Carl Larsson (Stockholm, May 28, 1853 – Falun, January 22, 1919) from his watercolors with scenes of his family, his children and this particular house and it’s interior in Sunborn. It has always been regarded as typical Swedish, but it really shows how creative they both were and in which special way they processed their experience abroad in the house.

In the eighties my mother bought a calendar with Carl’s wonderful Swedish drawings, which she later framed and hang up in the kitchen. Was it there where my love for Sweden was rooted? Carl made also oil paintings and murals. Karin Larsson was more of a textile artist and very ahead of her time. It’s like her mostly geometric weaving and embroidery were made in our time. The house was a joint project of those two artists and it was in the late 19th, early 20th century very modern in architecture and interior-design.

We had a guided tour in the morning, and got out of the house really inspired, it really is a “happy” house. Unfortunately you are not allowed to make pictures in the house, so you have to go and take a tour yourself to see if I exaggerate. This year you can finally buy a book about the house itself: “Carl Larsson’s House – From log cottage to total work of art”. I bought it: it’s worthwhile but the real interior is more beautiful then the pictures!
After the tour we had “world heritage lunch” next to the museum and visited a nice little exhibition about Carl’s inner life in ‘Konsthallen kvarnen’.

Shoppingtime! That’s what we also came for. We drove to the charming city Falun and had an afternoon full of shops. We always pay “Indiska” (clothes and interior) a visit when my mum is here, there is enough choice for everyone. Enough of shopping? Falun has restaurants for every taste. We had a delicious shrimp roll before we drove home. When the weather is bad we advise you to go to the indoor shopping-center Kupolen in Borlänge where you’ll stay dry and warm (during the winter).
