Yippie, we are mentioned and described in a Swedish book!

It is time to experience Sweden in winter, read: “Svemester vinter” by Niklas Kämpergård.

An inspiring tip for the festive season: the book about “svemester in wintertime” by Niklas Kämpergard is out! Our order has not been received yet, but fortunately, the bookstore Sörlins Bokhandel in Rättvik already had it on the shelves. The book is written to everyone who wants to experience winter in a unique and very personal way and is a nice collection of activities all over Sweden. And many of the examples he describes you’ll find just around the corner, without you even knowing!

In the Rättvik region, he describes some nice examples of his experiences. (We know that’s true because he stayed on our Supermoon on a cold night in February). Experiences that we recommend to our guests but still have not tried ourselves while (or maybe that’s the reason?) it’s so close by. (Hemmablind in Swedish: we have become blind to our environment where we live).

A great example is Silverhill stable, where you can ride a Swedish, mighty horse through the deep snow of the forest! Niklas describes it as giving him a feeling of “magical primordial power.” The farm is located in Boda Kyrkby, only a 15-minute drive from Furudal. Their “full moon ride” sounds like a dream and through the snow…! Yep, this winter, it’s going to happen.

Or, if you are looking for a natural and sustainable experience, can all family members participate? “ Imagine controlling your dog team that pulls through the winter landscape in deep snow so that the snow pulls behind the sledge and nature passes by as in a beautiful film on TV?” Did you know everyone in our part of Dalarna that you can experience just that in the forests of little Enviken, around the corner? Niklas made a tour with Nicklas and Josefine from Below Zero Husky Tours. Again a great example of a cosy, personal and small scale experience you’ll never forget.

The fun part of this book is that all the activities and accommodations in this collection provide a lot of inspiration to look for in your region. For example, the sleigh tours on an old-fashioned Swedish Vansbro sleigh (a kind of step) with which Pippi Longstocking did some shopping. In our area, we have Lotta from Green Owl Travel, who offers such tours through the village, so you pass all the cute Falu red houses and experience the winter in an ancient-fashioned way. Looking at her website, you find even more unique activities you probably never thought of doing. What about an exciting walk through the blackest of winter nights? Or snowshoeing and making a cosy fire?

All his recommendations and suggestions to look for have one thing in common: they are genuine, different, cosy, personal and small-scale Swedish experiences that ensure you are away from your everyday life for a while. Something to remember. It’s cool that we also inspired Niklas in our forest (and a pretty cold one; it was minus -15 that night). And guess what! You’ll find us not only IN the book but also our Supermåne on the cover of the book. A Christmas present that makes you happy!
