Our move to Sweden, looking back and forwards!

Adjö, vi ses!

Last weekend we noticed it was already 3 years ago since we moved to Sweden. We began our adventure, we were ready to break new grounds!

Was it easy to quit our old life and take a leap of faith?

No, it was not easy. All four of us had some problems and wished that we should have stayed in Holland sometimes. Particularly leaving family and friends is difficult. Sure calling, skyping or mailing is a way to keep in touch with each other, but we still prefer seeing each other and being in the neighbourhood. Building a new social life from zero, takes time. The Swedish language remains difficult too, our sons speak and write Swedish better than we do at the moment. But: just keep talking and ignore the language “threshold” every time, that’s our motto!

Regrets?

No, not at all! We met so many nice and interesting people and got help from nearby people and the village, we work together with inspirational people and have very cool guests from all over the world.

We are doing things we had never done otherwise, in business, but also private and in the sports field. How cool is it to be self-sufficient in the field of firewood during the winter; to issue a booklet with 8 fantastic walks in our area; to survive the Tjejvasan (30 km cross country ski-run);  to swim the Vansbro Ungdomssim (1000 meter open water run) two years in a row; hiking the Jämtlandstriangeln (3 days hike, 46 km) or earn a certificate for excellent reading! Maybe the next challenge is to run the Siljan Snowshoe Race at the Siljan Snowshoe Festival 2018 in Rättvik, who knows!

In business, we are ready to take the next step: planning a renovation and look for possibilities to involve our woodland and farm atmosphere more in our service. It’s fun to try to do it differently than others, try to offer our guests an unforgettable experience in the woods. Furthermore, we might publish our own glossy in 2018! In short, enough plans but now go for it!

Come and visit us in 2018, get an unforgettable experience and maybe be inspired by our stories. Welcome @Näsets Marcusgård!
