What do you prefer: a soft or a hard adventure?

-20 degrees Celsius, clear blue skies,”squeaky” sounds of snow when you walk on it , everything is frozen in silent splendour just for you, red cheeks, white frozen hair, sun, grilling sausages outside, enjoying your hot chocolate, loads of snow and perfect ice for outdoor activities. For those who love winter, these days (warmly dressed) make the most magical pictures.

We also enjoy that type of weather and all the beauty it brings along. And pictures of the forest huts and our sauna are incredible fine on these days. At these temperatures, you usually have a beautiful starry night with aurora chances.  You get a lot of energy, and it feels like you’re on holiday all the time.  But in this blog we will also be honest and realistic to you: Behind these perfect pictures all over the social media, there is another side, a side many don’t show you.

Supermåne starry night
Supermåne starry night

We always warn our guests to put on thermal underwear and tell them that it is sometimes necessary to turn the fire on in the middle of the night due to cooling down of the space. This is especially the case in the Supermåne, so we call the experience there a hard adventure during wintertime. You can read all about it in Niklas Kämpergårds article where he describes his adventure with -15 degrees. (Husbil & Husvagn Nr 2.21)

As a result of his experience and recommendations, we have now purchased super-thick sleeping bags that will keep you warm up to -35. At low temperatures, we leave the sleeping bags in the Fähus so that they stay warm. Guests then take them to the Supermåne before sleeping. They have now been tested a few times and have been found to be comfortable. In the Oddis Öga we have an electric heater on site under wintertimes.  Together with the floor-heating, the cabin is therefore comfortable enough without these “sleeping bag” measure. There you will experience a stay under winter more like a soft adventure.

Icy weather

We as hosts prefer a more soft adventure, because in extreme weather we can also have sudden problems that we cannot solve immediately. This may mean that for the sake of security of our guests and ourselves we have to move the experience to another date. That happened to us just last weekend. It was suddenly -30 degrees, the water pipes frooze under our site to the apartments. So no water and toilet available. We called the adventure off for the Oddis Öga and Supermåne and rebooked all of them. That is also part of living on the countryside, sometimes surrender to what the weather surprises you with. Sure, suffering is a good story for later, but it is not what we want to offer our guests.

Meanwhile everything is back on track, and today we will welcome two cool motorbiking chicks who will experience a hard but safe adventure at a beautiful -20 degrees.

We are curious which adventure you will pick. Welcome to try!
