Fall break: super boring? No, it’s super cool! If you know how and where to spend it. Walk, play, go out and explore! Fill your days with special fall-activities you’ll find all over the place during your break and then hygge in our Fähus or Hölada.
From spooky activities in Siljans theme parks to an outdoor cinema, a campfire or exploring our autumn forests or if it’s raining cats and dogs, do experiments in a laboratory of the Falun mine, have a tea break at our cosy little bakery in Furudal, visit a hockey game, enjoy a real ghost buffet, try Halloween bowling or take a swim in the indoor pool in Rättvik or Borlänge. It’s hard to believe that children had to work hard during this same break in the old days. They had to stay home from school to help pick potatoes or beets. In 1958, this fall break was deleted. In the 1970s, many municipalities add one or two study days around All Saints’ weekend. During the 1980s, the days off were extended to five days. It is a fine intermission during a long autumn school term, starting in week 33.

Falun Mine in Falun
The Falun Mine seeks clever and curious kids who want to become scientists and lead discoveries concerning new materials in the mine.
For hundreds of years, people have tried to deal with minerals in the rock with the help of the four elements: earth, fire, air and water. Who can control the elements and at the same time is curious and attentive enough to become worthy of leading the work in the mine’s new laboratory. As a reward, the king or queen knights all working scientists and elevates them to the Knights of Copper Mountain.

Sjövillan in Rättvik: Halloween with ghost buffet for children
