Old inhabitant visited Näsets Marcusgård

While baking waffles today we were surprised by an unexpected visit from an old inhabitant of our farm (and his friend). We showed him around and our tour brought back many memories. How interesting to hear what has changed in our house. On the ground floor used to be more walls, which created small rooms. Now they have been removed and everything looks more spacious. In the old days these rooms were small to keep it warm during the freezing […]

Our first igloo and two snowmen

Today we made our first igloo and two snowmen this year. The snow has been too fluffy these months, and that usually don’t work well for snow sculpting. But today the snow packs together very well. Even the igloo’s roof sticks together easily. For the igloo we used a box to get nicely shaped blocks. The snowmen have baseball caps on. Unfortunately our dog likes them very much and tries to eat them every time she passes by.

Darkness, waiting for the snow

It’s three o’clock and it’s completely dark outside. After a bright summer it feels a little strange to have such few hours of daylight left. No wonder most Swedes have decorated their houses with Christmas lights and put electrical candles before their windows and lights in their garden. Christmas is approaching and magazines, television ads, Christmas fairs, shops, everything seems to get crazy to get you in a Christmas mood: there’s simply no escape. But outside it’s still too dark […]

Berry fever

I think I’m going crazy! I can’t stop picking berries! I spend all day long at various places in the forest. It started with blueberries, then red and black currants from the bushes in the garden, then lingons, and then I discovered the raspberries in the forests! The only berries I haven’t found are blackberries. What do I do with all the berries? I baked cakes for guests, sorted bags of berries for sale, made cakes and pies for ourselves. […]

Nancy

Our dear dog Nancy turned one year old today. Of course we keep her away from our guests, but if they are not here she loves practicing her hobby: football, football, football. She also likes long walks with us through the forest and to eat all sorts of dung. Big hugs!

Extra hands

Our first volunteer has returned to the Netherlands. It was so busy this summer that his extra hands were well-used. He helped with cleaning apartments, he worked in the garden, he cleaned the terraces and made mosquito screens for The Hölada and The Fähus. In return we offered free lodgings in the guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner and he got a lot of free time to go exploring with his mountain bike. Next summer another volunteer!

Ice fishing

Despite the wonderful spring sun, the ice was thick enough for a real “ispimpla”- ice fishing. You drill a hole in the ice, fasten a maggot onto your mini fishing rod and drop the wire into the hole. We tried for 5 minutes but did not catch a single fish. We moved to another hole to try again, but another five minutes later, no catch. Alas, we know we are too impatient for ice fishing, but at least we tried. […]

History

Today we hiked through the snow to a neighbour. She takes care of the photo albums showing many of the original inhabitants in Näset. It was lovely to browse through some of them. So many villagers emigrated to America! Our neighbour made a family tree from the birth of Marcus Eriksson, especially for us. He is the man who built the farm. From the picture he looks like a real dandy, a man with courage. We’ve already heard stories about […]
