Adjö, vi ses!

Our move to Sweden, looking back and forwards!

Last weekend we noticed it was already 3 years ago since we moved to Sweden. We began our adventure, we were ready to break new grounds! Was it easy to quit our old life and take a leap of faith? No, it was not easy. All four of us had some problems and wished that we should have stayed in Holland sometimes. Particularly leaving family and friends is difficult. Sure calling, skyping or mailing is a way to keep in […]

The summer season: it ain’t over till it’s over!

All over suddenly, it feels like the summer season is over. Kids have to go to school, Swedes have to work again. The Tourist office in Furudal is closed for the season now. But is the season really over? Or is it over for just the Swedes? Next couple of weeks we still have guests, no Swedes but foreign guests. At the very moment we write this, we have some guests from Belgium and Israel. These guests are also in […]

omg…?! No water running out of the tap!

For some time we have been warned of a shortage of drinking water in the region. It has been dryer than usual for more than 2 years now. Especially during the wintertime, there is less precipitation so that the groundwater reserves are not being replenished. If your drinking water source is not deep enough, you have a problem: no more drinking water. During the farmers dinners we organized the last few weeks, the topic -shortage of drinking water- was often […]

Wakey-wakey: the summer season is here!

Did you notice it? Our village Furudal is full of activity. Last week we’ve had a special “wakey-wakey” weekend: most of the shops were open, Furudals tourist office was open and even the Bra-bus showed up. Today we’ve read a post on Facebook telling that the Furudals famous Ice hockey school is doing the last preparations for the arrival of the boys and girls enjoying their Ice hockey summer camp. There is a wave of new energy throughout our village. […]

The top 10 tips around Näsets Marcusgård (Furudal)

In less than ten weeks, it will be Midsummer in Sweden, the start of the summer season! Whether you’ll stay at Näsets Marcusgård or elsewhere, check out the Ore (Furudal) surroundings, do some local shopping and enjoy the countryside scenery. Here’s a little guide to summer activities and culture around Ore. #1 Go for a swim in Lake Ore (Oresjön) or Lake Skattungen Both lakes have many private swimming spots, sandy beaches, and places where you can walk a couple […]

Be inspired: snow sculptures in our garden

What is that mysteriously naked woman doing in our garden on the picnic table? Something different isn’t it, and she made our boys blush. She’s made of snow and created by one of our guests this week. She is a sculptor and almost couldn’t stop snow sculpturing last Wednesday. We already said so, slowing down at our place and enjoy Siljans culture and beautiful surroundings gives the right energy to create and get new ideas to almost all of our […]

SM i Skidorientering

Can you believe it? Furudal so lively and full of skiers!

Our guests arrived in sporty ski outfit, they already finished their first sprint distance. Furudal proved it can host more than ice-hockey events, it’s a fun place for competitions and activities like the Swedish Mastership ski-orienteering as well. Ski Orienteering is an endurance winter sport combining navigation and cross-country skiing across a rough terrain using prepared cross-country ski tracks. It’s time-measured and objective, the fastest time wins. An electronic card verifies that the athlete has visited all control points in […]

Furudal: a great place for Nordic skiing!

A crystal clear sky, sun, snowy pine trees, crispy snow. This weekend was great to go out cross country skiing: for the fun and I have to train for the Tjejvasan 2017 (Vasaloppet) in February. I must be honest: I left out that it was minus 15 and in the beginning I felt totally frozen, but after 15 minutes I felt fine again. That Furudal is a great place for Nordic skiing is not new. But that village has a […]

Queen winter

Frosty queen winter delivers, getting on survival mode!

Finished again: our first short two days of ”cold wave” in 2017. -30℃ last night, about -26℃ during the daytime. That is pretty harsh if you are not used to it, and when you are used to it it’s harsh because the temperature goes up and down to extremes so quickly this year. From plus 5 degrees last week, to minus 30℃ last night to -3℃ today. Such a cold wave is pretty normal in January, but normally it comes […]

Mix and match your own winterfun: Ice-skating on Rädsjön

Mix and match your own winterfun, that is what we promote. It’s because we really believe that mixing makes everyone in your family (or friends) happy and satisfied. Today we started our winter fun season mix and match with: ice-skating on Rädsjön at Orsa Grönklitt. And it was the best thing to choose! We got into the car at 11:00 in the morning and arrived at 12:00 at the parking place near the entrance of the cross country part. Rädsjön […]
